Understanding Birmingham's health landscape
Birmingham, like many cities in the UK, has deep health equalities when comparing different areas of the city. The difference in life expectancy across city wards can be more than 8 years.
How Unity Health can help
This section highlights health inequalities affecting the city’s Muslim community and outlines ways Unity Health can support addressing them. Many other communities face similar issues, and tailored approaches may be needed. For information about other groups, see the Deep Engagement Partner programme at Birmingham City Council.

Health Professionals
Healing often has a physical, emotional and spiritual dimension. Doctors in times gone by would treat the whole person as they recognised each being is created and has a soul.
Today modern medicine has made amazing advances but at the same time we see alarming increase in lifestyle related illness affecting our mental and physical health. This has given rise to evidence-based Lifestyle Medicine and Health Coaching to help people find a more natural, holistic and healthier way of life.
Many doctors feel frustrated by the lack of time they have to treat patients and because many patients with serious health concerns do not heed the lifestyle advice they are given. The health education and health coaching resources within this website also incorporate Prophetic wisdom with Lifestyle Medicine advice to increase patient motivation to follow important healthy lifestyle advice.
Cultural Awareness Training
If you are a health professional who cares for many patients from the Muslim community and feel you would benefit from additional cultural awareness training about their specific needs, please get in touch.
